How can If any of my cosmetics have heavy metals such as Lead and mercury?

Hello,
today I was watching the television show “The Doctors” and they were talking about ingredients in skin care and beauty products that were harmful such as phthalates, formaldehyde. They also said that lip liners and lip sticks contain lead and mercury and I was just wondering how I can tell if my cosmetics have these chemicals and metal in them? Is it just cosmetics that were made in china that I need to be cautious of?
